Quickenings
Quickenings or Mist Abilities can be very confusing for someone new to the game. Quickenings are like a Limit Break or Overdrive or Super attack, something like that. They are purchased via the License Board and each character can obtain up to three, which can be aquired in any order by anyone.
After purchasing a Quickening their MP gauge will glow orange. This represents the Mist Charge. The more Mist abilities acquired, the more Mist Charges, multiplying your maxmimum MP aswell. To use a Quickening a number of Mist Charges corresponding to that Quickenings level are required, so for a level 3 Quickening you will need all three Mist Charges.
You will be given four seconds to pull off the longest chain you can once you use a Quickening. After selecting a Quickening, there will be three lines, one for each ally, at the bottom of the screen. Each character has a button assigned to execute their next ability. If the characters name and ability are in white you will be able to use the displayed ability, if it is dimmed out, you can not.
You can think of the determining factors as to wether or not a characters ability can be used like a slot machine. Its really the luck of the draw, you can hope that you will get white names. Mist Charge can also show up, by selecting the characters icon you can recharge his or her Mist and allow him/her to use another attack. If none of your characters use an ability, you can press R2 to reshuffle your Mists, but you may not be given another chance. Just remember that you only have 4 seconds.
If you make a long chain youm can trigger something that is called a Concurrence, something which basically finishes off the chain.
Heres a list of the concurrences and their requirements:
Inferno - 3x lvl 1
Cataclysm - 7x lvl 1
Torrent - 2x lvl 1, 3x lvl 2
Wind Burst - 5x lvl 2
