Hints and Tips
A walkthrough, a dungeon guide, Heart Piece locations… all of these typical Legend of Zelda content pieces cannot be offered for Four Swords. And its all because of the dungeon design. Every time you start a dungeon, it will be made up of two random parts, an inside and an outside. You may start a dungeon thinking that you've done this one before, only to discover as you progress that it is completely different. There are about 100 different combinations total, so it takes a while for this game to get boring.
The list below contains other information that is sure to come in handy in pretty much every dungeon combination.
RUPEE FEVER!!! - If all the players are at full hearts, all the rupees that are picked up will give you double the default amount. Referred to as RF.
Pot Heads - This is a fun trick to use when you want to bypass your pal(s) and get the goods. If you see a pot, pick it up and throw it at a different link. If you miss, judge the distance and try again. If the pot hits them, it will go on their head, and there is no way they can do anything but move around. On their screen, all it shows is them with a pot on their head, and they will bump into walls. However, if you whack them with your sword or if they cause damage to themselves in some way, the pot will break.
Rupee Wraiths - These guys hide in treasure chests, and will make you drop your rupees. You can pick them back up, which is an advantage when you have RF. To dislodge the Wraith, simply touch a buddy. It will go after them instead. It will eventually disappear, but there is no knowing who it will go after first when the chest is opened, not always the opener.
Rupee Likes - If you see a rupee appear out of nowhere in a fizzle of smoke, DO NOT PICK IT UP!! It is a Rupee Like, it will hold you in its coils, sapping your rupees. To get out, have a buddy slice it up. They are worth lots of rupees if you can manage to destroy them, but they travel in packs.
Seeds - There are three different seeds you can find by cutting grass, and each has a different effect on you, none of them are negative. You can only carry two of each, but its worth it, so keep your eyes open.
Bow-Wow - this is an item/character from Mario games, but is a tool on a pedestal in this game. Very rare find, usually in Vaati's palace, it will come off of you on a long chain, and snap at baddies and your buddies, making them drop rupees, and (get this!) it even picks them up for you. This is good if you have RF, cause the dropped rupees are picked up double. Just press A again to snap him back in.
Hurricane Blade - To get this technique, you must have 10 Medals from FS, and then in LttP, on the same game, you must play the riddle quest. The answers are (but not in this order): Fish, Octobaloon, Apple, Red Rupee, a Squirrel, and one of those baddies that when you sprinkle Magic Powder on it it gets glasses and sings. After completing the riddle quest, the Hurricane Blade Technique is available in both games, but in LttP it uses magic power, and you can't do it continuously like in FS.
Palace of The Four Sword - After you beat Vaati of the Hero's Level of FS and Ganon in the pyramid of LttP, on the same pack, then the thief blocking your way on a lower level of the Pyramid will disappear, giving you entrance. Before you can enter the Final Room, you must defeat all the guardians of the Four Swords. They should be no problem, considering that they are just old bosses from earlier in the game, but they have gotten a little smarter.... In the Final Room, you must fight yourself. The cape doesn't work, for if you disappear, they disappear. Defeat the first three, then try your luck on yourself, he's pretty tough.
FAIRY FRENZY!!! - After beating Vaati, on any difficulty level, you and all the buddies you played with will be on a platform. Get out your swords, you get another chance at rupees: when the fairies fly by, whack them and they will drop rupees. Fat fairies drop fat (and more valuable) rupees. If somebody else is giving you trouble, push (or throw) them off the edge, but it only lasts the credits, so work fast.
