Happy Masks

There are 20 Happy Masks total, not counting the four transformation masks. Nineteen of those are given to you by people in the game after you help them out, and you can still beat the game without eighteen of those. However, they make the game a lot more fun, and often help you to get something else (often a piece of heart). If you play your cards right, and run really fast, you should be able to get seven on your first Three Days as normal Link.

Who- The person who gives you the mask
Where- Where the above person can be found in order to receive the mask
How- What you must do in order to receive the mask from the above person
Action- What the mask does when 'B' is pressed. Not all masks have an Action.
Use- Where you should use the mask, often ending in you receiving a piece of heart or some other prize

Great Fairy Mask
Who- Great Fairy
Where- North Clock Town
How- Restore the Great Fairy to her original form in your normal shape. Look for the stray fairy at the Laundry Pool during the day and next to the Deku Flower in East Clock Town at night. Once you have it go back to the Fairy Pool in North Clock Town.
Use- Wear this mask while in dungeons to make the stray fairies there come flying to you. This only works if you are close enough to them and if they are not somehow trapped.

Bremen Mask
Who- Guru-Guru
Where- Laundry Pool (South Clock Town)
How- Go to the Laundry Pool during the night of Day 1 or Day 2.and talk to Guru-Guru as normal Link. He will spill his guts about stealing from his old leader when he was in the circus, and then give you what he stole.
Action- March around while playing a simple song on your ocarina.
Use- When you use the action of this mask, small animals near you will start to march along behind you (see Bunny Hood).

Bunny Hood
Who- Grog
Where- Cucco Shack (Romani Ranch)
How- You will have to wait for Day Three in order to get to Romani Ranch, or be a certified Powder Keg using Goron, which you probably aren't (yet). Head to the little side area of the ranch, the one with chickens painted all over the wall. Use the Bremen Mask and get all the little Cucco chicks to follow you around. There are ten total, and once they are all marching with you, they will turn into full-grown Cuccos. The guy by the tree will be so happy he'll give you the Bunny Hood.
Use- Wearing the Bunny Hood lets you run faster and jump further. Try wearing it in battle for extra agility. This mask doesn't get you any extra prizes, but it will no doubt be the one you use the most.

Kamaro's Mask
Who- Kamaro
Where- North Termina Field
How- On any day, between midnight and 6:00 AM, you can find the ghost of Kamaro dancing on top of the big mushroom shaped rock. It is a simple matter to find the rock (look in North Termina Field) and jump to it. Play the Song of Healing for this troubled spirit, and he will give you his mask that contains all his dance moves.
Action- Perform the dance Kamaro taught you.
Use- The Rosa Sisters of Gorman's troupe practice their dance moves in West Clock Town on Days 1 and 2 between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Interrupt their practice with Kamaro's dance to receive a piece of heart.

Blast Mask
Who- Old Lady from the Bomb Shop
Where- North Clock Town (Day 1 only)
How- At 12:30 AM on the first day, the Old Lady from the Bomb Shop will be passing by with her load of goodies for the shop, when some thief (Sakon) jumps out of the bushes and mugs her! Run after him and hit him with your sword to make him drop the loot. Note how the soldier just lets him run away without even moving. Good man. The Old Lady will be so happy she'll give you the Blast Mask. Also, when the shop opens the next day, you will be able to buy a bomb bag.
Action- Cause an explosion as if using a bomb.
Use- The Blast Mask comes in handy if you never bothered to get the bomb bag, or are completely out of the "Goron Special Crop" (wrong game). Stand next to the rock or whatever you want to blow up, and detonate. The only catch is that you take a bit of damage, and have to wait a little before you can do it again. It also works on enemies, if you're in the mood for some kamikaze style fighting.

Don Gero's Mask
Who- Hungry Goron
Where- Mountain Village
How- The hungry Goron trapped on the ledge will be very hungry, and he'll claim he doesn't have the strength to climb down. At the Goron Village, light all of the torches so that the chandelier starts to rotate. Roll down the red carpet as Goron Link and break the hanging lamps until the Rock Sirloin falls out of one of them. Carry it all the way back to the hungry Goron, and toss it up onto his ledge. He'll give you the Don Gero's Mask and then roll away.
Use- This masks lets you pose as a frog (I wasn't convinced) that is famous as a composer among other frogs. Talk to all five frogs in the game (look in Woodfall Temple, Great Bay Temple, the Laundry Pool, the Mountain Village pond, and the river to the Deku Palace) after you have returned spring to the mountains to get them to assemble at the Mountain Village pond. You will only be able to talk to them if you are wearing Don Gero's Mask. You will receive a piece of heart after leading all the frogs in their song.

Mask of Truth
Who- Cursed Skulltula Man
Where- Swamp Spider House
How- The Swamp Spider House is located in the Swamp on the ground next to the waterfall. Collect all thirty Golden Skulltula tokens, then talk to the man in the front again. He will give you the Mask of Truth for saving him.
Use- The design on the Mask of Truth is the exact same as that on the Gossip Stones. Wearing this mask lets you talk to them, as well as most animals. Use it to talk to the dogs at Mamamu Yan's racetrack to pick a winner. Also be sure to check all the holes in Termina Field that have only a row of four Gossip Stones and have your Ocarina handy.

Mask of Scents
Who- Deku Butler
Where- Deku Cave
How- After beating Odolwa and saving the Deku Princess, she will tell you that the Butler has taken a liking to you. Outside the palace, go around to the right (left if you're facing the door) and kill the Big Octo. Inside the cave, the deku in question will tell you to follow him. He's really fast, so the Bunny Hood puts you at a good advantage here. Don't worry if you fail the first couple times, there's no limit on how many times you try. If you manage to keep up with him and get through the door at the finish, he will reward you with the Mask of Scents.
Use- You'll be able to see what you smell by wearing this mask. If you take the mushrooms you find to Kotake, she'll brew you up an otherwise expensive potion. Mushrooms aren't all you can find though....

Romani's Mask
Who- Cremia
Where- Termina Field, Day 2
How- This is an event that takes almost all three days. First, you must have the Goron Mask and the Powder Keg License (not to mention an actual Powder Keg). Blow up the boulder that is blocking the route to Romani Ranch first thing on day one, and talk to the cheerful little Romani herself. You will learn Epona's Song, and a receive a free crash course on horseback archery. Equip the Bunny Hood and now wait until 2:30 AM. When Romani comes out, she'll hide in the barn and lock the door. Be sure that time is at its normal flow, and you have a full quiver of arrows. When the aliens start showing up, circle the barn and shoot any that get to close. If you bought the map you can see if there are any coming too close that aren't on your screen. If you succeed, then you will earn a bottle with milk in it from Romani. After saving the cows, talk to Cremia on Day 2 a little before 6:00 PM. Ride with her, and shoot the disguised Gorman Brothers as often as you can. Wear the Circus Leader's Mask if you have it, it will make the ride a lot easier. If you managed to save a majority of Cremia's milk cargo, she will give you the Romani's Mask.
Use- Wearing this mask lets you enter the Milk Bar in East Clock Town (while its open). There a number of other events that take place in there that you can now access.

Garo's Mask
Who- The Gorman Brothers
Where- Gorman Race Track (Milk Road)
How- On any day before 6:00 PM, you can challenge the Gorman Brothers to a race by talking to them from the back of Epona. If you win, they will give you one of their ninja guises that they use when raiding Cremia's milk cargo.
Use- This is one of the two Happy Masks that you must get at some point to proceed with your game. Wear this mask at the foot of the cliff before Ikana canyon for the ghost catcher to let you a way up. If you wear this mask while in Ikana Canyon, real Garo Ninja will pop out of the ground and fight you. Defeat them with a single blow after blocking their attack with your shield, and they will give you some advice on how to proceed in the Canyon.

Circus Leader's Mask
Who- Gorman
Where- Milk Bar
How- Gorman left the farm to lead a circus troupe, and its not exactly the easy ticket he had in mind. Enter the Milk Bar on Day 1 or 2 after 10:00 PM, and you'll find Gorman, moping at the bar, and Toto, the band manager for the Indigo-Gos. As it turns out, Gorman is fond of a certain song, and Toto is eager to conduct. Follow Toto's instructions while up on the stage, and Gorman will give you his mask after hearing you play the Ballad of the Windfish in four part harmony.
Use- This teary eyed mask is very good at spreading the glum feeling it represents. Almost everyone in the game will give you a different response than normal if you wear it. It'll even have an effect on his hard-hearted brothers.

Stone Mask
Who- Shiro
Where- Road to Ikana
How- Use the Lens of Truth to spot overlooked Shiro sitting in a circle of rocks. Give him a red or blue potion, keep in mind you can get one for free if you have not already saved Koume during your current 3-Day cycle. After healing him, he will present you with the Stone Mask, which lets you go as unnoticed as him.
Use- This mask will let you go unnoticed by almost all enemies. Characters such as Sakon or the Pirates at Great Bay will also be unaware of your presence.

Captain's Hat
Who- Captain Keeta
Where- Ikana Graveyard
How- Play the Sonata of Awakening to the giant skeleton under the wall next to the Ikana Graveyard. When he wakes up, he's not running away, he's challenging you to catch him. Shoot him with an arrow to get him to freeze momentarily, take out the little guys two at once with a spin attack. At the top, use the hookshot to get to the chest.
Use- While wearing the Captain's Hat, Stalchildren will respect you and do what you say, rather than attack. You can tell them to move each of the different graves in the graveyard (one on each day) and ask them for help in the Oceanside Spider House.

Gibdo's Mask
Who- Pamela's Father
Where- Ikana Canyon's Music Box House
How- You'll notice the door to the Music Box House is locked. Lure the little girl out of the house by putting a bomb in front of the door, but don't let her see you. Sneak in while she's looking for the source of the disturbance, then head down the stairs. When the boogey man jumps out of the closet, play the Song of Healing for him to receive the Gibdo's Mask.
Use- When you're wearing this mask, you will go unnoticed by anything… hmm… dead. The redead at Ikana Castle will even dance for you if you're wearing it. This is one of the masks you MUST acquire, for you need it to talk to the Gibdo's down below in the Ikana well.

All-Night Mask
Who- Curiosity Shop Man
Where- Curiosity Shop, Day 3
How- If you stop Sakon from robbing the Old Lady on Day One (see Blast Mask) then the All-Night Mask will be on sale at the Curiosity shop on Day 3 (something else Sakon managed to steal instead, no doubt). The first thing you notice will probably not be the interesting web-like effect of the craftsmanship, but rather the price tag of 500 Rupees. You'll need the Giant Wallet to save up that much, so first you'll need the Adult's Wallet. Save up 200 in west Clock Town, then complete the Oceanside Spider House (on the first day, you won't get the wallet otherwise).
Use- This mask only has one use, besides looking cool. Talk to Anju's grandmother in the Stock Pot Inn while wearing this mask to not only stay awake through her stories, but also actually hear them. You'll want to do them both, because it's worth two pieces of heart, plus several important elements in the plot.

Giant's Mask
Where- Stone Tower Temple (upside-down)
How- This is long and complicated, so get ready… beat the Eyegore in the Stone Tower Temple while its upside-down. Wow. If you have trouble with that, because I know its confusing, my e-mail is on the contact page. Oh, and I forgot! Open the chest. Good luck with that. Whew.
Use- You will have a hell of a time fighting Twinmold without this puppy. Plus, this is the only place you can wear the Giant's Mask (not without reason). Be careful though, it uses up your magic, and if you run out during the battle you're pretty much done. I recommend Chateau Romani, and make sure you have the extended magic meter.

Anju-Kafei Sequence Masks

The Anju-Kafei Sequence is by far the goodest (no, it isn't a word, see if I care) good deed you do throughout the entire game. It's even gooder (=P) than stopping the moon from crushing everyone. You'll understand why when you complete it. These are just the masks; you can look at an in-depth guide to the sequence elsewhere.

Kafei's Mask
Who- Madame Aroma
Where- Drawing Room in Mayor's Office
How- Talk to Madame Aroma (the large orange lady) in the right hand room at the Mayor's place between 10:00 a.m. and 8 p.m. on day one or two, as anything other than Deku Link.
Use- Everyone will give you a different response than normal when you're wearing this one, and that is always fun. Talk to Anju at the Stock Pot Inn between 2:18 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. on the first day to progress to the next stage of the sequence.

Keaton Mask
Who- Curiosity Shop Man
Where- Curiosity Shop's back room, Day 3
How- Between 1:00 and 10:00 p.m., re-enter the Curiosity Shop's back room and talk to the shopkeeper. He'll give you a letter too.
Use- Ever wonder why certain patches of grass start to scatter when you start cutting them? Me too, I mean it just doesn't make sense. But what does make sense (okay not really) is that if you destroy every thing of grass before they disappear, while wearing the Keaton Mask, Keaton himself will pop of the ground and quiz you! Study up!

Postman's Hat
Who- Postman
Where- Outside the Milk Bar, Day 3
How- Take the letter you got from the Curiosity Shop Man to the Postman himself (he'll be at his office in West Clock Town). Talk to him after he delivers it, than head off to help Kafei at Sakon's Hideout. After your success, you can find him outside the Milk Bar. Talk to him, and he will thank you and give his hat. Probably figures you won't live long enough to use it.
Use- Every mailbox in Clock Town has a gift for the Postman in it. Mailboxes aren't that smart, so if you're wearing the Postman's Hat, they'll think you're the Postman and give you stuff (not letters though). The first thing you'll get is a piece of heart, and after that, just rupees.

Couple's Mask
Who- Anju & Kafei
Where- Stock Pot Inn, Anju's Room, Day 3
How- After successfully helping Kafei retrieve his Sun's Mask from Sakon, warp back to Clock Town and wait in the room that is normally locked with Anju. Kafei, who does not posses a magical ocarina nor a magic sword to operate the magic owl statues, has to run all the way back. When he gets there, him and Anju will thank you for being so kind and helping them, and then give you the Couple's Mask. It's shiny.
Use- Talk to people while wearing this mask. You'll feel all gushy inside. Some people you'll definitely want to check are: the Mayor, Anju, Kafei, Madame Aroma, and the Innkeeper. I think there is one other, too, but they must not be as important.

And let's see… yup! That's all 20 happy masks. By getting all of them you've treated yourself to the Fierce Deity transformation mask (a must have for anyone who wishes to call themselves a gamer) and a little cutscene sequence during the credits for each mask you acquire.
