Bosses

Just a small note: I’ve only listed major bosses here. Most mini-bosses are just suped up versions of normal monsters, and really easy to beat. No strategy involved. I did, however, include any mini-boss worthy of mention, such as Dark Link and the Fire Dancer.

Queen Ghoma
Location: Deku Tree

This battle is rather simple. Target Ghoma’s eye, and shoot when it turns red. While she is stunned, smack the heck out of her with your sword. If you take too long, she’ll start spawning little baby Ghomas. These are useful for hearts and bullets if you are running low. She takes ten sword hits to be defeated.

King Dodongo
Location: Dodongo’s Cavern

If Ghoma was ‘simple’, than King Dodongo is ‘easy’. Don’t let his size fool you. He will roll around the arena, but it is rather easy to avoid him. Wait for him to uncurl, and he will open his mouth. If you give him enough time, he breathes fire at you. However, him opening his mouth is your cue to throw a bomb into that bad boy. Once it explodes, sword him, and sword him good. He doesn’t take very many hits, you should only need to stun him about three times. If you do run out of bombs, there are bomb flowers in the corners.

Big Octo
Location: Jabu Jabu’s Belly

There are many different ways to beat this guy, experiment, if you wish, but the best is with the boomerang. You hardly even need to move. Wait for him to charge you, then throw your boomerang right into his face. When he turns around, target the green spot on his back and throw your boomerang again. You can just keep doing this until he’s dead. Another way is to run behind him until you catch up, boomerang him, and then use your sword while he’s stunned.

Barinade
Location: Jabu Jabu’s Belly

The first semi-challenging boss. There are three main steps in his down fall, and all three must be performed before he can take any sword damage. The first step is to boomerang the tentacles attaching him to the ceiling. Then, attack the miniture Baris and Biri’s that surround him. When all of them are gone, hit the giant thing itself with the boomerang. Now he is stunned, and prone to sword attacks. You may have to repeat this step a number of times if you don’t get enough hits in the first two times.

Phantom Ganon
Location: Forest Temple

Your first boss battle as an adult. It seems that the enemies are seven years stronger too. Take out your bow, and wait in the center of the room. The picture he is going to come out of will glow purple right as he exits it, shoot him then. If you run out of arrows, switch to the hookshot. After a few arrows in the skull, he’ll become a little angry and get off his horse to fight you for real. When he shoots a sort of ball of light at you, hit it back with your sword (you can use the bottle too, but the sword is more practical). Target him for better accuracy. Eventually the ball will hit one of you: if it hits Phantom Ganon, run up and sword him while he’s stunned. Repeat this until he dies.

Fire Dancer
Location: Fire Temple

Relatively simple. Just use the hookshot while you’ve got him targeted, and then attack the little black ash ball with your sword like a crazy person. If he’s too fast for you, you can always use arrows, but the sword is more effective.

Volvagia
Location: Fire Temple

There are three main attack methods of this guy, and three main ways to counter them. The first, he comes out of his hole and flies around. Just keep him targeted while avoiding his fiery greatness. The second, he flies up to the ceiling and drops rocks on you. Watch out for shadows and you shouldn’t have a problem. The third, he pokes his head out of a hole. Use the hammer to smash his skull in, than attack with your sword when he’s stunned. Repeat this process until he dies. Figuring out which hole he’s about to come out of can be a little tricky, just be ready for anything.

Dark Link
Location: Water Temple

No doubt you’ve heard from other sources, or thought yourself, that the megaton hammer would be the best way to beat someone like this. Dark Link will at first copy everything you do, but as he takes more damage, he gets more serious. Another main problem, he blocks your sword attacks when he starts taking heavy damage, and counters almost all of them, especially your thrust. He usually jumps up on top of your outstretched sword and gives your head a good bopping. Don’t stand for that crap! You can either use the megaton hammer, which isn’t very effective against a shield, so I don’t know why people recommend it. Or, you can equip the Broken Giant’s Knife, if you have it. For most practical uses, this sword is completely useless. But if you rush in with it and use the thrust technique, Dark Link will attempt to jump on the blade but will instead glitch down back to the ground, and get a full face of broken sword. Also, if you’re not really the combat type, or you don’t have the Broken Giant’s Knife, just use Din’s Fire any time he gets really close to you. You’ll be needing a green or blue potion if you plan to destroy him using ONLY Din’s Fire, so I recommend using Din’s Fire until you’re out, then rush in with the Broken Giant’s Knife.

Morpha
Location: Water Temple

Another simple battle, very similar to the Fire Dancer. To start the fight, jump into the water and climb out onto one of the platforms. Inside the living water is a small nucleus, use your hookshot to pull it out onto land. I recommend staying on the edges rather than the center platforms. While the nucleus bounces away, attack it with your sword as many times as possible. If you’ve got the Biggeron’s Sword, I’d use it at this point, you can get in more attacks with a longer range. Repeat this until he dies, be careful not to fall into the water or stray into the range of the tentacles.

Bongo Bongo
Location: Shadow Temple

You’ll probably be wanting a blue or green potion, as you’ll be using the Lens of Truth the entire battle. First thing you want to do is target the hands and shoot them with arrows. Once both are stunned, the head they belong to will appear. Shoot the eye, and get in as many sword attacks you can while he’s stunned. Rinse, lather, repeat. If you run out of arrows, the hookshot is a decent enough substitute.

Twinrova
Location: Spirit Temple

This battle has two distinct phases. The first phase consists of Koume and Kotake shooting magic at you. Use the mirror shield to deflect each power at the opposite witch. Target the ice witch when fire is shot at you, the fire one when ice is shot at you. Use the same method as you do with octoroks. After a few hits, the two will fuse together to form Twinrova. Use your shield as usual, only this time you absorb power. Absorb three shots of the same element (three of fire or three of ice, never a combination), and then let it loose at Twinrova. Run over and sword her while she’s stunned. Repeat this process until she splits apart again, and then enjoy one of the funniest cut scenes in the game.

Ganondorf
Location: Ganon’s Castle

For a final battle, its more fun than it is hard. Challenging, yes, but seriously, try and enjoy this battle. There’s all the general power ups on the ground in the pots, in case you run out of anything, but my recommendation is two blue potions and two fairies. Of course if you’d rather have more than one over the other, go with blue potions as you’ll be shooting a lot of magic arrows and just using a lot of magic in general. Equip your hover boots momentarily and use them to get to one of the corner platforms. He will shoot a light ball at you; once again, bounce it back at him using your sword (or bottle). Ganondorf is much better at deflecting the light back at you again than Phantom Ganon was, so be ready for some hectic bouncing. If you manage to hit him with the light energy, shoot him with a light arrow quickly while his defense is down. Once he falls to the floor, hookshot him to get to him faster, and attack him with your sword until he gets back up. Then repeat the process until he is beat. Beat bad, it would seem, as you now have only 3 minutes to escape the castle with Zelda.

Ganon
Location: Ganon’s Castle Grounds

Once you reach the bottom of the castle, Ganondorf will resurface, and horribly mutate into Ganon, the giant pig-man with a cape. Only he has no cape this time, hardly resembles a pig, and is really really buff. His first move as a demon? To get rid of your sword! Of course! Equip the Biggeron Sword if you’ve got it, or the Megaton hammer if you don’t. If you need any kind of power up, hide behind some rubble and wait for Ganon to smash it. These contain fairies, magic bottles, arrows, and for whatever reason, bombs. If you have any empty bottles by this point, capture any fairies you encounter to get the full use out of them. Meanwhile, in the actual fight, target his face, and shoot a light arrow at it. He will be stunned for a moment, which is your opportunity to run behind him and attack his glowing tail part with your hammer or Biggeron sword. He will become active again immediately after being hit, so back flip out of the way. After a few hits, the fire barrier will go down, and Zelda will call you to get your sword. Do it quickly, and keep going at what you were doing, only this time with the master sword. Eventually, Zelda will bind him with her Sagely powers, use the opportunity to plunge your sword into his SKULL… wait no… that would be Wind Waker. Never mind. Congratulations, you’ve destroyed the final boss. Now as to whether or not you’ll survive the seven-minute credits… bwuhahaha.
