Heart Piece Locations
I've sorted the Heart Pieces by location rather than order, as there really is no order in which they are found. There's a total of 36 pieces, which is 9 extra heart containers for those of you who lack math skills. Having all the extra hearts is almost ridiculous, it takes forever for anything to kill you. Tracking down every piece isn't required, but well worth it in the end.
Lost Woods
- In the past, take your first left. Stand on the stump and play Saria's Song, the Skull Kid will appreciate the tune.
- Deeper in the forest there is a similar stump where if you climb upon it, two Skull Kids will pop up. Play the game with them, it will get harder and harder every time, but your final prize is a heart piece.
Hyrule Field
- At the entrance to lake Hylia, there is a square area of fences. Lay a bomb in the very center of the square. The Deku Scrub inside the hole will sell you the piece for only 10 rupees after you beat him.
- To the left of the Castle there is a cluster of trees. Lay a bomb next to the one that seems a little further away from the others, and drop into the hole. Use the iron boots to sink and claim your piece of heart.
Market
- As child link, play the Bombchu Bowling minigame. One of the prizes is a piece of heart.
- At night time as a child, play the treasure chest game. It is much easier if you have the Lens of Truth. The final prize is a piece of heart.
- As a child at night time, the street will be littered with dogs instead of people. There's a white one standing next to the Bazaar, get it to follow you all the way back into the alley to where the house with the lady is. She should give you a piece of heart. (I'm quite sure that that dog is the right one, it's always worked for me, but then again it could still be random.)
Lon Lon Ranch
- Far in the back of the ranch, behind the horsy corral is a building. Move a few boxes out of the way and crawl deeper, you will find a nest with a piece of heart resting in it. You have to be a child.
Kakariko Village
- The center grave in the graveyard should have some flowers growing next to it; push it open and drop down inside. Kill all the redead... however that works... and then play the sun's song.
- On one of the rooftops sits a man. In the future, it's a simple matter of using the longshot to spider-man yourself up there. Yes, spider-man is a verb. In the past, If you climb up the really long ladder, you can then stand in the corner and jump over the edge using Z targeting. This'll land you on a fence, from which you can make your way rather easily to the man on the roof. Talk to him and he'll give you a piece of heart.
- Play Dampe's mini-game in the graveyard at night time, from 8-11 PM. Those little stones do come in handy. Eventually he will dig up a heart piece.
- In the cursed Skulltula house, your prize for beating 50 is a piece of heart.
- Race with Dampe's ghost under the graveyard a second time, and beat him in less than one minute. The trick to that is using the longshot to cross a gap at the end much faster.
- In the corner of the graveyard there is some soft soil. Plant a bean, and then ride the plant up in the future. There will be a piece of heart at the top.
- After completing Dampe's race, you will come into the windmill at a secret entrance. It is possible to jump and land on the platform with the heart piece that is out of reach from the bottom.
- Use your hookshot to spider-man across the rooftops. There is a platform coming out of Impa's house above the cucco pen, go through the door and get the piece of heart next to the cow. This is also possible to get as a child after being dropped on the roof by Kaepora (the owl).
Zora's Domain, River, and Fountain
- High above Zora's river is a heart piece in plain sight. You can reach this as an adult by using either the magic bean plant, hover boots, or a cucco. The cucco version works in the past as well.
- There is another piece of heart next to the waterfall in Zora's River. This one can also be reached using the Hover Boots or the cucco. It's easy to spot.
- There is a peculiar log in the middle of the River in the past, that when you stand upon it, frogs will pop up. Play the song of storms, and they will give you a piece of heart.
- On the same log, to the same frogs, play every non-warping song there is. After you do, they will ask you to play a game with them. Win the game and they will give you another piece of heart. This ocarina game is very similar to the one in the Lost Woods with the Skull Kids.
- Once you get the Iron Boots, put them on and sink to the bottom of Zora's Fountain. There is a heart piece at the very bottom. You actually don't need the Blue Tunic, just the boots.
- Another one in Zora's Fountain, it is in plain sight, on the far side of the pool. You can easily jump to it across the floating ice.
- Inside Zora's Domain, there are four torches. Light the two in plain sight with a deku stick, then jump behind the waterfall and use Din's Fire. If done fast enough, all four will be lit, and a treasure chest with a piece of heart inside should show up next to you behind the fall.
Lake Hylia
- In the future, catch a fish weighing 10-14 pounds. Not very difficult.
- If you have the Golden Scale, go to the Lake Side Laboratory and dive to the bottom of the measuring tank. The Biologist will give you a piece of heart. Contrary to popular belief, this is possible to pull off using the metal boots, but you have to put them on and then take them off again just in the nick of time and it really isn't worth trying over and over again. Just get the Golden Scale.
- On the roof of the lakeside laboratory is a heart piece, over looking all the world. Ride the magic bean plant there in the future after planting it as a child, then climb up the ladder and enjoy the view.
Death Mountain
- Plant a magic bean next to the entrance of Dodongo's cavern, then ride it up to the heart piece in the future. If you don't like waiting, it is possible to back flip off the higher ledge after moving the bomb flower out of your way, but you have to be angled just so in order to land on the platform.
- Climb down one of the walls near the entrance to the crater beside the great fairy. There should be a small cave in the wall, climb in to retrieve a heart piece.
- Also in the crater, plant a magic bean next to the warp pad. You'll have to warp in in order to get that far in the first place. In the future, ride the plant up to the top where you can retrieve the piece of heart.
Goron City
- Light all of the torches in the past so that the statue at the bottom starts spinning around. Stand on the ledge overlooking the bottom floor, and throw a bomb into the top of the statue. Eventually it will spit out a piece of heart, after that it'll just give you a couple rupees.
Gerudo Valley
- You can see a crate on a small ledge next to the waterfall in the entrance to the valley. Use the cucco to fly down to the ledge and break open the crate.
- Plant a bean in the soft soil at the foot of the waterfall. Come back as an adult and ride the plant to the piece of heart behind the fall.
- In the fortress, there is a large chest in one of the rooms, but it's a little bit out of reach. You can play the Scarecrow's song to hookshot up there, or you can just hookshot the chest itself if you get the angle correct.
- After you have the membership card, play the horseback archery target test until you get 1000 points. Its actually rather easy and fun once you get the hang of it, so don't fret.
Ice Cavern
- You'll find a room rather early on with icicles on the floor and ceiling. Use some blue fire to melt the red ice in the center of the room and claim another piece of heart.
Desert Colosseus
- Warp in as a child and plant a bean near the entrance to the spirit temple. Ride it as an adult to another heart piece.
