Walkthrough

Notes: At some points during this walkthrough you may notice something that looks like this: *(1)*. These refer to numbered footnotes and the end of the walkthrough. Footnotes are not guaranteed because they may not have been tested. For item use and strategies for defeating minor enemies, refer to the other sections.

You start in your house. Walk out the door.

Kokiri Forest

Climb down the ladder. To get to the Great Deku Tree, you need a sword and a shield. First, you may want to talk to the other people in the forest for advice on how to use the controls. That is for first-time players only, as others will have an idea as to how to play the game already.

Getting the Sword: To get the sword, go to the Hole of L in the South-west area of the forest. After you climb through the tunnel, there is a blue rupee and a regenerating plant. This type of plant usually gives you whatever you are low on. Wait for the boulder to roll past and then follow the high grass. On the way are side-areas. One has a blue rupee and the next has a chest with the Kokiri Sword. Open the chest and take out the sword. Then, exit the Hole of L.

Getting the Shield: You can buy the shield in the shop (the red-roofed building) for 40 Rupees. To get rupees, try throwing the rocks by Mido’s house, cutting down plants, and running through high grass. There is a blue rupee on a bridge that leads away from Saria’s roof. You can also open the chests in Mido’s house. They contain: Bottom left — 1 rupee, bottom right — recovery heart, top left — 5 rupees, top right — 5 rupees. You can also get rupees by jumping between the three square rocks in front of the shop. Enter a building and then exit and you can do it again. After you have 40 rupees, buy the shield and use whatever money you have left to buy Deku Nuts and Sticks. Go east, talk to Mido (make sure you have your sword and shield equipped). Walk down the path, and watch out for some Deku Babas on the way. Kill them to get some Deku sticks and Deku Nuts for the Great Deku Tree. Enter the Tree’s mouth after a conversation with it.

Great Deku Tree

There are some regenerating plants and Deku Babas on the bottom floor. Climb up the ladder to the left of the entrance and watch out for a Keese. Continue to follow the path until you come to a chest, box, and Gohma Egg. Kill the egg (be careful, there’s another very high up above). Open the chest to get the map and roll into the box to find a Golden Skulltula. Climb the vines and drop off onto a ledge when you get to the top. Watch for Keese and Deku Babas. Step on the switch on this floor to light all of the torches in this room. The Keese can now become Fire Keese. Go through the door that was uncovered by lighting the torch. Kill all of the monsters in this room to make a chest appear. Open it for the Slingshot. Light the torch in the middle of this room to summon a chest with 5 rupees. Return to the second floor and burn the web near the chest and go through the door. Kill the monsters in the next room and shoot the eye switch. Walk through the door. Kill the egg and Skullwalltulas. Drop to the floor and climb up the vines. Open the chest for the Compass. *(1)* Shoot the ladder on the opposite wall to exit the room. Return to the bottom floor. Burn the web and drop down. Press the switch on the platform with 2 Deku Babas on it to light a torch. Burn the web by the torch. Step on the switch to drop a chest with 5 rupees. Shoot the eye switch and walk through the door. Kill the Gohma Eggs (there’s one on the ceiling) and the mad scrub. Return to the previous room to light a Deku Stick and then bring it into this room to light the torches. Go through the door. The chest has a heart in it. Shoot the egg on the ceiling. Step on the switch to light the torch. Move with haste to light a stick on it (the torch goes out but there’s still enough time to touch it). Jump onto the moving platform. Roll under the spiky rod and then use the burning stick to light the torches. Target the Skulltula and then stand as close to the wall as possible to shoot it with the slingshot. *(2)* Enter the door. Kill the enemies any way you can. There are eggs on the ceiling and Keese. If you are really good at targeting, reflect the Scrub nuts from the Mad Scrub at the eggs that are on the ground to avoid exposing yourself. Enter the door. Shoot the keese on the torches. Look out for Babas. *(3)* Burn the webs. Going through the door is pretty much useless right now. *(4)* Enter the tunnel instead. The business scrub here will sell you a Deku Shield for 50 rupees, which is a rip-off, but if you lost yours… When fighting the Big Deku Baba be sure to not fall off the edge. If you do, you’ll have to go back to where you fell down the webbing, and go all the way back around, which can be quite a hassle. Push the block off the edge. Go to the other side of the room. Light a stick and jump toward the ledge with the chest and two Babas. You might not notice, but there is a ledge underwater that stops the stick from getting wet. Jump to the block and use the stick to burn the web. If you have trouble doing this fast enough, try starting on the platform with the torch and facing the ledge that you need to jump to. Run past the torch and light it on the way. This cuts out time that it would take you to turn. Defeat the scrubs in the next room in the order right, left, middle. Go through the door. Talk to the scrub that runs away from you and he’ll give you a secret to fighting Gohma. Walk into the large room and look up to the ceiling keep looking until the giant eye sees you.

Parasitic Armored Arachnid: Gohma

NiteSite’s Strategy: Target Gohma and never let go of targeting. Let her come up to you. When she rears back and her eye turns red, shoot with the slingshot. Run up and start swinging your sword as fast as you can. Gohma will stand up and run up onto the ceiling. If you lose your targeting lock, look up with first person and lock on again. When the eye turns red, launch another seed and Gohma will fall to the floor. Again let her have it with your sword. If you were swinging fast enough, Gohma will die and crumble away. If you missed the shot while Gohma was on the ceiling, she will drop several eggs on you. Kill them and Gohma will again fall to the floor. If you don’t kill the eggs fast enough, Gohma will fall anyway and you will have even more problems. Then repeat from the beginning.

Ajs31390’s Strategy: Target Gohma and never let go of targeting. Let her come up to you. When she rears back and her eye turns red, shoot with the slingshot. Run up and start swinging your sword as fast as you can. When Gohma tries to get up to reach the ceiling, throw a Deku Nut AS SOON AS SHE STARTS TO GET UP. She will be stunned. Start this pattern: 3 slashes then a Deku Nut, 3 slashes and then a Deku Nut. Repeat until Gohma dies. If done correctly, Gohma will never reach the ceiling, but it will take you somewhere between 5 and 10 Deku Nuts.

Grab the Heart Container and walk into the blue light. Listen to the Deku Tree, cry if needed.
