Pokemon- a world wide craze that spread like wildfire after the release of the Red and Blue versions of the game for Gameboy. Spawning a trading card game, a popular anime, not to mention countless comics and toys, the games that gave birth to the franchise were simply swept along in the rush. However, after 12 years, the game series is one of the strongest survivors of Pokemon's popularity decline. It is the second best selling video game franchise, with 155 million units sold. Only Mario has sold more, and it had a fifteen-year head start. The main series titles are RPGs of the capture and customize persuasion, but they are outnumbered by the countless spinoffs in existence.
