Heart Piece Locations
Each piece is very well hidden. Getting every piece (five forms a new heart container) gives you an additional nine, for a total of 20 by the time you beat the game. It's well worth it to find all 45.
Ordon Village
- Take Epona to Fado’s Ranch after you recover her from the moblins in Kakariko. Herd the 20 goats into the barn to earn a piece of heart.
Faron
- Light the two torches in the room where you originally found the small key, and a chest will appear.
- Bomb the boulder near Coro and use the Dominion Rod to guide the Owl Statue into the indentation. Turn into a wolf and jump up to the ledge to reach a chest with a piece of heart.
Forest Temple
- There is a two story room with several of the man-eating plants in it. The plant on the ground floor is blocking the way to a chest with a piece of heart, drop a bomb into it’s mouth to get past.
- In the room full of spring-snake tiles, use your boomerang to extinguish the torches furthest from the door to claim a chest with a piece of heart.
Hyrule Field
- In Faron Province, there is a piece of heart hidden in a tree. Use your boomerang to retrieve it from the branches. The tree is a little way east of the bridge.
- There’s a piece of heart sitting right on top of a pillar sticking out of the gorge in Eldin Province. Use your boomerang to bring it down to you.
- South of the bridge that crosses Kakariko Gorge in Eldin Province there’s a bombable rock blocking the entrance to a cave. There are several forks in the path, go east, lower east, north, and east again to find a room with torches. Light them for a chest with a piece of heart.
- In the entrance to Kakariko Village in the Bridge of Eldin part of the field, you’ll see a bombable boulder. Blow it up and climb up the ledge, and continue on this path, climbing vines and blowing up any other boulders in the way. Eventually you’ll reach a short drop to a treasure chest with a piece of heart inside it.
- North of the Bridge of Eldin is a claw-shot target. Latch on and go right until you reach a cave. Use your metal boots to reach the bottom safely, where you’ll find a chest with a piece of heart.
- North of Hyrule Castle and to the west there’s a path blocked by boulders. Clear the way and continue until you reach a wall-rail. Get on it with the spinner and switch sides whenever the rails stop. At the end of the trail is a piece of heart.
- Another wall-rail, this time west of the Bridge of Eldin and across another bridge. At the end of the trail turn into a wolf and dig in the ring of grass. Defeat all the monsters that show up and claim another piece.
- Just south of the shortcut to Zora Domain, in the northernmost area of Hyrule field is a bombable wall. It’s easy to miss because it’s on the side of a cliff-face. On the inside, destroy the ice blocking your path, solve the three sliding block puzzles (they really aren’t that hard) and claim your piece of heart.
- After repairing the Bridge of Eldin, use the Dominion Rod on the owl statue and waddle it across to a part of the arch where there’s a ladder in a room just out of reach. Have the statue drop into the lower ledge to serve as a jumping point, then climb to the top where you can not only claim a piece of heart but take on that roof-top sniper face to face.
- Across the Kakariko Gorge, on the same pillar that used to have a piece of heart perched on the very top is a claw-shot target. Grab on to it, then use the double claw-shot to swing across to the cliff face. Then repeat the process back to the vines on the pillar and climb around until you reach a ledge, with a chest with a piece of heart in it.
Kakariko Village
- Talk to Talo at his lookout post (after you’ve beaten Goron Mines), and he’ll ask you to show him how to use a bow. Say yes, and clear the mini-game without using the Hawkeye to win a piece of heart.
- Blow up the boulder in the town’s entrance and follow the path to the water that feeds into the spirit’s spring. Throw on the Iron Boots and sink to the bottom to find a treasure chest with a piece of heart inside. You can get down and out with the piece before drowning.
- High above the spirit spring is a boulder; blow it up with a bomb arrow and use your boomerang to retrieve the piece of heart.
- Later in the game Malo Mart will accept donations to build a bridge to castle town. The depressed goron merchant right next to the bridge is cramped up, so go back to town and talk to the goron outside the shop. He’ll give you a barrel of hot spring water, which you must take all the way to the merchant without dropping or letting cool. He’ll drop off a piece of heart on his way out once he’s been revitalized.
Death Mountain
- After you’ve earned the Goron’s respect, talk to the second one you pass on the trail in from Kakariko, and he’ll launch you up on his back. Pull yourself up the ledge and go north along the path, and turn left into a cave opening before the bridge. Drop down for a chest with a piece of heart.
Goron Mines
- In the room two rooms east of Gor Amoto’s room (the large room where you walk a maze on the magnetic ceiling) go east from the north end of the room, and drop down to a treasure chest, containing a piece of heart.
- In the first room with a beamos there’s a magnetized wall to the left. Walk up it and go left to find a treasure chest with a heart piece.
Castle Town
- A man in green robes on West Road will ask you to make a donation of either 50 or 30 rupees. Donate a total of 1000 rupees and a piece of heart will fall from the sky to you.
Lake Hylia
- Go to the hawk grass as a wolf to meet Plumm, a parrot with a mini-game. Score higher than 10,000 (aim only for the strawberries) to win a piece of heart.
- When entering the lake from Hyrule Field you’ll be able to go left and take part in a mini-game called Falbi’s Flight by Fowl. Aim for the top-most tier of the colored floating block in the water to access the piece of heart in the chest there.
- Take a right inside the spirit’s spring and clawshot onto the vines. Follow this path through a door and down a tunnel until you reach a room with two treasure chests, light the torches and a third will appear, containing a piece of heart.
- South of the warp spot there is a boulder stuck in the wall. Blow it up to access a very complicated tunnel system, with many goodies inside such as poes, yellow chu jelly, and ultimately, a piece of heart. Bring lots of lantern oil and bombs.
Upper Zora’s River
- In the middle of the Fishing Hole is a rock formation. From the west you can clearly see a piece of heart on one of the rocks. Catch it with your fishing rod from the canoe, or sink to the bottom and snag it with your clawshot.
Lakebed Temple
- In the large room with the rotating staircases, you will eventually get to a point where a clawshot target above the chandelier is in range. Clawshot it and drop to a chest with a piece of heart.
- In the southeastern room of B1 there is a ledge with a switch on it. You have to have water flowing into the room to access it. Stand on the switch until the door is all the way open, then clawshot your way into it to find a chest with a piece of heart.
Sacred Grove
- In the room where you fought the skull kid, blow up the boulder and then turn into a wolf and dig in the shiny patch where it was. Kill everything in the cave and a chest will appear containing a piece of heart.
Gerudo Desert
- In the desert fortress there is a boar being roasted that spews recover hearts when you cut it. Hack at it enough and a piece of heart will pop out.
Arbiter’s Grounds
- In the main room, with the four Poe torches, there is a clawshot target on the upper east wall. Open the chest for a piece of heart.
- In the room right before the big key, the one with all the wall rails and quicksand, there’s a treasure chest in the top part of the room with the swinging spike. One guess as to what’s inside.
Snowpeak
- After clearing Snowpeak, you’ll unlock a snowboarding mini-game. Beat Yeto first, relatively easy, and then race Yeta and win to earn a piece of heart.
Snowpeak Ruins
- In the tall spiral slope room that leads to the second floor (cannon at the top, to ice beasts in the middle) there’s a chest with a piece of heart at the very bottom. Use the ball and chain to break the ice at the top to get to it.
- On the lobby’s second floor, swing the chandeliers with your ball and chain and jump across them to reach a chest with a piece of heart.
Temple of Time
- On your way back down the temple with your statue accomplice, shoot the switch on 6F to open the gate for yourself. Use the statue to step on the switch beyond the electrical barrier and you have access to a previously unobtainable chest with a piece of heart.
- When you return to the elevator room with a working dominion rod, use the little statues to weigh down the two switches on the upper floor to open the door to the south. Go to the south end , throwing two statues over the rail and guiding them to switches. This will create a chest with a piece of heart.
- In the very first room, before the dungeon proper, there are two owl statues in niches in the corners of the room. The east one has a piece of heart behind it, the west one has a Poe.
Hidden Village
- Talk to the Cucco next to the Howling Stone as a wolf and complete his mini-game to earn a piece of heart.
City in the Sky
- In the western climbing room, with the huge Deku Baba in the center, there’s a clawshot target to the west. Latch on, drop down, and clawshot again to the vines to the north. Climb the vines and dispatch the Deku Baba, jump to where it was and reach the first checkpoint- a chest with yellow rupee. Go back to your right on the vines and carefully walk across the wall to the second check point, a chest with 20 arrows. Continue walking until you reach a small ledge; hang on and slide across it to a ledge you can drop down to, upon which sits a chest with a piece of heart. And naturally, another Deku Baba.
- At the part before the big key with the huge arch of peahats that must be clawshot-ed across, clawshot across the entire arch to reach a ledge on the other side of the tower. Open the door to access a treasure chest with a piece of heart.
Palace of Twilight
- There’s an alleyway of darkness two rooms south of the room where you first fight Zant’s ghost. Take a Sol rock to clear the dark or use the Master Sword after it becomes infused with light, at the end you will be in reach of a clawshot that leads to a ledge with a chest with a piece of heart inside it.
- Two rooms south of the second room where you fight Zant’s ghost, there are some light tiles to ride up at the end of the room. They will take you to a ledge with a chest containing 50 rupees... and a chest containing a piece of heart.
